Small Pond....Big Gills (10.5 inches)

I just bought a new house that has a small pond on the property.  Look what I pulled out a few days ago.  That 10.5 inch gill was THICK!!!!!

Nice bull male. Wow what a crown on him. The other is most likely a female. Big spawn fish like that are great to have in a small pond. You won't have trouble finding them with a sonar unit. Hope you released them.

I caught about 30 in an hour of fishing.  These were the 2 biggest.  Most were around 7 inches.

I put them all back down the hole.  I wanted those good genes to be spread this spring.

There are some nice 16 to 18 inch bass in there that do population control!!!

I actually took the tape measure to check the thickness of the ice.....I did not imagine I would be using it to measure monster Gills.
