Covering your hole
« on: Jan 25, 2011, 09:04 PM »
So how you guys feel about covering a your whole. Ive talked to a few people who swear by doing it, they say the shaft of light coming down the hole spooks the fish. On the other hand i have had people tell me it helps the fish find the bait and the shaft doesn't bother them. I tend to stand somewhere in the middle but dont really have an opinion either way. What say you?

for me it depends on the species, the thickness of the snow and the ambient light available..

I only cover my hole if I want to catch monsters. If you want numbers, leave your hole open IMO

I have a closed cell foam that I used to put my line down the middle 1/2 inch hole that is cut from hole to outside of hole cover. That way when a big one is on I can just lift it quickly out of the way. No I tend to leave slush there and just fish out of a finger hole in the middle.

Yeah yours would probably be better as mine is the sleeping pad material and only about 1/4 inch thick. Yours is probably 1 inch thick at least.

depends of the depth, I usually always cover my hole in shallow water,  the fish come towards the light then it spooks them I find.
