The Quest for 40
« on: Jan 16, 2011, 06:46 PM »
well last year a bunch of friends and myself drove all over the Adirondacks in search of a 40" pike. we hit the waters at least twice a week and put all our chips on Phat baits.. 2010 came to a close without that goal being met, close with a 34" Esox but no 40..
Now 2011 came in with a bang and this weekend second year iceman came through with a monster..
Sweet fish taken on a remote adk lake.. The 40 was iced photo and returned back to the deep to grow much bigger..  ;D

Good job bro

40 is my quest as well as I'm sure every other pike fisherman's.  Last year my best was 37".  Still chasing.  Nice fish by the way!

Well done!  It's gotta feel good to finally hit that goal.  And yes, I think that's definitely the goal of most Pike chasers.  My pb is 36"....one day I'll join the club too  ;)

Congrats...

Nice pike. My personal best was a 38 incher on my jig pole while fishing for bluegill with a tiny rocker. Took me 20 minutes to get him in. What a blast!!! :flex:

I have been hunting or fishing almost everyday of my life. The rest have been wasted.

thanks folks. Like said my friend caught that giant and just into his second year ice fishing. So far in his short stint he has quite a nice list going, bass, pike, tiger muskies, perch, lakers and even a brookie but now a fish of a lifetime..
we will still be seeking to get all the gang into a 40 but at least the goal of our crew has been obtained and takes a little pressure off.

Fishing with friends who are ready to go and go often at the drop of a dime is priceless..
Next stop... Hard Water !!!!!

Thanks guys. I was glad a good bunch of buddies were with me to enjoy seeing that fish. I keep getting asked why I didn't keep it. My answer is so someone else can get a big one.

"Im not going ice fishing with you guys, unless you pull me out on the frozen lake in a rowboat"

The ol' boy has changed his tune considerably since meeting the gang and seeing what it is all about.  What a great looking fish that is.  The ADKs still hold some giants!  Great fish, buddy!  Next one is 45"+!!!
