First ice silvers of the year
« on: Dec 31, 2004, 11:06 PM »
Here are some pics from my first icefishing tripped for landlocked cohos.

A nice pic of chiniak lake ( exept for that stupid thumb >:(). The landlocked silvers here are natural, the 1964 tsunami closed this lake off preventing smolts from escaping.

A nice group of silvers, they don't get that big but they fight and taste awesome! I think they taste better than sea run silvers.

very nice colours, are you sure the ice in pic no. 1 is safe?! :o nice fish

Do the leaves of trees stay greener, in the autumn, does the colour of the sun, turn crimson white? Does a shadow come between us, in the winter?

Nice pics!
I have to agree, though.
That ice looks truly scary!

Nice fish, KoCam...

It rained a lot adding to the look but you are guys are right in your suspisions. That was in fact are fourth location. The first three locations did not have safe ice but this one did and i am glad cuz that spot was virgin territory and it produced. THe ice was very compact and about 5 and a half to 6 inches form shore to 50 yard beyond my friends in the pic in about a 150 yard circle, it does not look that thick cuz of the rain. How ever the whole back part of the lake you see and the rest of the lake (which is bigger than the pic portion) was only about 2 inches thick. The wind seemed to blow lots of ice that kept stacking up on the spot we were fishing.

I've never seen a coho salmon. They look kind of like a rainbow, brown, and a bit of laker all thrown into one! Glad to see you caught some fish! hope that ice holds up buddy! I want to see you catch some more!
if anybody from michigan will help me out with the lakes and stuff up here I'd really appreciate it since I'm new to the area.

TFB, you have never seen pics of a fresh silver salmon? Those landlocked cohos look exactly like adult fresh sea run cohos, not the older ones that have been in freshwater for a while. Even though most pics on fishfinder have old silvers from the great lakes i would have thought you would have seen a picture of a fresh silver!

Rains a lot more here than it snows so that's a very common look of a lake here.
