« on: Jan 16, 2011, 06:02 PM »
hey guys new to this gas auger stuff, and was just wandering how you guys store your augers at your house??? i had mine laying down on the handle and the gas is leaking out of it, just started today as a matter of fact, its only 2 weeks old and didnt do this before. so should i stand it up to be storing it when not in use??? how do i do that on the ice also? or do i just call them tell them the problem and they will send me a new gas cap? is mine bad its leaking out the screw vent area. or am i just a dummy for letting it sit on the handle? any help is appreciated thanks guys.     EYEFISHERMAN   D.T.   OH YEA IT IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY ALSO!

I would stand it up for sure. Check the gasket under your cap and make sure your vent is closed.

I drill a partial hole then shut it off and leave it standing.

My Jiffy has a cork seal under the gas cap, just make sure that it is in place and not torn. They say this new gas raises hell with certain types of gaskets, causes them to deteriorate prematurely.

I would contact them and I am sure they will send you a new cap. You should be able to lay it down with the gas cap up and not have and issue. The oring in the cap could of dried out from sitting around in a store and cracked after it was tightened and loosened causing it to leak

Never ever do that ........ I've seen guys spudding in desperation to get their auger unstuck after it get's frozen in or the ice shifts a bit. Manufacturers directly warn against it. I agree it's probably the ring though ......

eyefishermandt: Make sure when you are done drilling, twist (close) the vent screw on the cap closed. (Clockwise.) There is only one rubber gasket on the Stingray cap....opening the screw (counterclockwise) pushes "down" the rubber seal, to allow air to enter. Close this up, sit it on the handle opposite the gas tank, and you'll be fine.
90% of these problems are caused by people NOT closing the vent screw. If you don't have the rubber gasket in the cap, (hard to miss) call Eskimo at 1-800-345-6007, ext 146, ask for Eva. Tell her you're off this site. She'll take care of you.

When I store mine at home, it is hung on a rubber coated U shaped hook that is screwed in the wall.

first i dont fill my tank over 1/2 full next if i cant partial drill to stand it prop it on its side on a sled or bucket vent hole always up be very carefull the vent screw has a detent  which will pop off if you over tighten it open   :'( :'( :'(  closed no problem hot days the gas expands and seeps out the vent its not 100% leakproof so rest assured its going to leak a little at times its better than hand augering
