« on: Nov 19, 2011, 08:27 PM »
auger is 7yrs old, it ran fine for yrs. started boggin when real cold and during drilling. didn't use it for few yrs, when to get her going wouldn't start. i changed plug last season i used it and plugs still good.  took gas tank off, sprayed starting fluid in there and it started.  blew crab cleaner threw gas line, i could hear the line clearing of debris and crab cleaner spraying in crab.   fig i was good, put back together, prime line, sprayed starting fluid still wont start. i cant get crab off there a little piece i  need to take off, but the screw real tight  and piece is plastic. the crab is small worried I'm going to break the damn thing. any pointer or diagram and or instructions. ice is commin soon, closest place that will work on it 2 hours away

have you ran startron through it?  its an enzyme treatment to ethanol gas.  I run this through mine.   Also if you make any carb adjustments, make them during cold temps. I.E. temps that you would use the auger under normal conditions.

I would buy a new needle and seat and diaphragm. I did this a couple years back on my 3hp for under 10 bucks. I am not certain if the high and low idle settings are the same on the 2hp as the 3hp. If they are i think i still have them written down from the service center i got the parts from. I am sure someone here will know.

2 and 3 HP augers are not the same, totally different carburetors, and parts. If not fuel is getting through good chance the needle is not coming off of the seat, but with out the diaphragm moving with the vacuum from the engine the needle is not unseating. kit the carb or have someone capable do it and it surely will be a runner. As far as the brand, Jiffy or SM of older vintage they had the same engines 2 and 3 HP, the only difference was the gear case.

95 percent of small engine carb problems are the direct result of ethanol Varnish and snot build up, most of the lightnings had Walbro carbs on them, some of the newer ones have the zema chinese knock off carbs ! The rebuild kits are roughly 8 to 10 bucks and the whole pocess takes about 45 minutes to an hour. if your not comfortable with taking it apart, most any good small engine shop can take care of it for you, Startron like tip up7 said, will prevent this from happening in the future ! Good luck and let us know how ya make out !
