I love my commando but I wanted an easier way to switch up rods without always having to turn around, dig in a rod bag, etc.
I called Frabill and ordered the two support bars for the seat (they're sold as a package so I had to get both bars even though I only needed the "back one".
I then cut off the bars and installed some 1 1/4" predrilled steel so I could remove the entire bar with 2 simple pulls of a pin if I didn't want to use the holders, for travelling, or just for more room.
then painted it black to match
Then I got some PVC pipe and mounted them to the bar with 1 1/4" bolts
Installed some small bungee cords and eye hooks to keep the rods in place when I take the bar out for traveling and lay them down
Now I have plenty of room behind the seat to still reach tackle, heaters, my scoop, etc and the rod holders and the bars are totally out of the way and don't interfere with flipping the shelter up or folding it down at all
Here is folded down
with the shack flipped up
and remember .. if I dont want the bar in or want to make more room when its' in the truck I can just pull the 2 pins and it slides right out. The poles stay in there nice and snug even if you lay them down flat.
Just thought I'd share....
