Spencer Lake Access
« on: Jan 04, 2005, 11:41 AM »
Hi Bushbunny and others.  I trust New Years was good for everyone.  I did not make it up north as my wife decided we would go visit her brother's family in Brooks.  I did fish Lake Newell for a couple of hours.  Not a bad pike lake.

Bushbunny, have you accessed Spencer Lake from a way other than across Touchwood?  As I have posted before, I am going to try to fish Seibert Lake through the ice (hopefully next week) and I would like to zip over to Spencer.  According to my maps, it looks like about a 4 km cutline access directly from Seibert Lake over to Spencer that would bring you to the west side of Spencer.  I am not sure how good the cutline is and you would have to access it from Seibert Lake where technically you cannot ride atv's in that park.

Thoughts?  I would also appreciate your directions to Jackson Blackett and Kinnaird from the South.

Cheers.

I have never had reason to access Spencer from the south.  That cutline does get use by the fishermen from the St.Paul-Bonnyville area.  Check your regs, because my interpretation is that access is only from Touchwood.  Just a thought.  It probably depends which fish cop checks you.

To get into Blackett & Kinnaird, take the Pinehurst Lake road,  turnin at the Acclaim gas plant sign, go north up the goat trail, cross Helena Lake, and take the goat trail onto Blackett.  Kinnaird is up the ice trail to the right and the main body of Blackett is to the left .  Jackson is reached by going up Blackett, across Kinnaird to the north end to a narrow piece of land which you cross onto Jackson.

Thanks for the info bb.

I was chatting on line with another fellow and he spoke of access from the Seibert Lake side of Spencer.  I understand the regs speak about only accessing from the "west tip" of Spencer which would be the Touchwood access.  I guess I can always go from Seibert to Touchwood to Spencer, but more direct would be better.  I have seen guys coming on to Spencer from the Southwest side of the lake before.  If the fellow tells me exactly how he gets on to Spencer, I will run it by you.  Apprently a guy put his truck through the ice into Spencer this year?

I will definately be hitting Blackett/Kinnaird and Jackson this year.  I quadded into Jackson in the summer just to see it and get my berrings for the winter, but that was on the ATV trail from the Touchwood Lake road.
