Seen lots of sauger being pulled out and seen a nice 31" hog being pulled out on sunday morning. Thinking of putting the shack out there this weekend since lockport probably won't happen this year...there's also at least 16"-18" of ice and everyone is driving on it already. good luck!!

Guys that fish the "steamplant" don't consider that CIL as it's further north than the shacks are at CIL. 2 different "clusters" of shacks. Yes, access is from the same spot though.
Saw 3 larger trucks LAST WEEK drive from CIL to steamplant. I sure wouldn't be trying that.

It is CIL road that you drive down from 59 highway. Drive to the river is at the end of CIL road. From there it is what 500 yards to the Steamplant. If you want to get real picky. Many shacks and trucks all over the place, drive by it many times a day.Thank you so very much for the clarification though.I can now sleep better tonight knowing what I am looking at.Thanks pal.

Don't shoot the messenger, I wasn't saying your post was wrong. Just trying to help out someone who appears new & could confuse the 2.
e.g. when someone says they've been nailing them at the steamplant, doesn't necessarily mean they were nailing them at the bottom of CIL Road.

Thanks again man. Next time I am out there I will go about 250 yards towards the 'Steamplant' from CIL road and ask the guys where they are fishing. That is about half the way to the 'Steamplant' from CIL.Lived and fished Selkirk,Lockport all my life and always thought the general area was either CIL or Steamplant but thanks again for the clarification.

16-18 inches of ice 150 yards from shore at the bottom of CIL. 9 trucks on the ice. only got out at 230 this aft after putting th shack out this morn'. Couple a tugs but on the lines at about 3pm  but nothing made it on ice. Was fishing at 11' with a chubby darter and also some minnows on a yellow jig. Water is very murky on the top of the under water ridge.  the ridge usually is about 7-8 feet under ice, so the river is STILL 4-6 feet high.Current is still strong and most likey will be all winter. All in all, a great day out on the ice with my Boys. some fish would have made momma happy, but she went to Polo Park shoppin instead.

Back out before first light tomorrow for a concerted effort without the 4-6 year olds. they will come after lunch... ;)
a bad day fishing is better than the best day at work..unless you fish for a living.

You said it man! I bet you are ONE of the guys that just cannot sit there and let it be. Bet you have to correct the person or it eats away at you. If you read back on the post all I did was say yes to his question. I know,I know he was referring to a whole completely different area of the river,500 yards away,I know,I know. Think I will get some marking paint and show the divider from CIL to Steamplant.

They used to call it 509, before your time.  That is what my Dad and his friends called it way back in the sixties.

Yeah I heard that a few times too. It is CIL road and HWY 509 from 59 to Henderson.CIL road actually goes quite a ways east.Used to be the drinkin' backroad to Garson.Had to watch at Cook's Creek to make sure you were not going too fast.Oh the days...

have to agree with fishmanmb it is two different locations, in the group of shacks down from cil there is many locations called different things by everyone, theres doc reeds, cil, the steamplant...do we want to include the golf course as cil?  and as you describe the backroad drinking road as cil...that is not true it stops at 59 highway...i live down there so i might know... ???

and the "hydro lines" and "miracle mile" "old Henderson".......pretty much think I see why they used to call it 509!!  Now I don't know where I fish. ???

As long as we catch....we can all call it what we like.  I call it "the other spot" as I am usually near Selkirk Park these days.

Good luck, good fishing to you!!

I know bro....I don't fight here.  That is for other places (like the other Manitoba fishing site). ::)

Folks are passionate about this sport.  I fish when I can, where I can.  Apparently I too have been calling all of the places by the wrong names.

And you are right about Doc's.

I want to get out on Sunday, and will probably be "at the park" which is what I call the area in front of Selkirk Park, across from what used to be called "Sugar Island Marina" which I now call "Over There, where the Marina used to be". ???

LOL!!

No prob, Blue.  I am searching for another one that I have in PDF format, it zooms right into all kinds of water access points, it even lists Chalet Beach Road.  For the life of me I can't find it.  If I do I will send it to all who are interested.

Stay on the dry side of the ice!!!
