Not really sure never looked in mine. might be for the screen heater or something. I have a friend with the new Vex will have to see if it is viewable outside without sheilding it like the new Marcums to. I use mine in the summer to disect structure.

the big box holds the camera and battery while in transport, no hard-drive. The marcum also weights more then my old aqu-vu, but it is a nice camera.

As for the vexilar scout, I dont think anyone has had it on the ice enough to give you an opinion. But Vex makes quality product so it should be good. Not sure if it has a video out jack like the marcum, this will allow you to record videos from the camera, very important in my opinion

The Marcum monitor is far superior then the Vex monitor, more pixel resolution. A real shame to use a Sony camera and then put on a crappy monitor. Look at them side by side and and the Marcum is a ton clearer, I think they use the same camera, the difference is in the monitor.

Yeah Esox, you can really see the difference when you see them side by side. I think this year the Marcum's win.

agreed, what makes it better is it is not N, S, E, W like the aqua-vu's but just an arrow pointing in the direction the camera is facing, great for finding that lure quick
