What's you best 2010 memory???
« on: Dec 02, 2010, 01:56 PM »
Hi All,
With the hardwater season approaching fast, I thought it might be fun to ask what your best fishing memory of 2010 was. Maybe it's a funny story or a lesson learned, a monster catch or one that got away.

For me, I started fly fishing this year and in July was in Georgia for work. I went fly fishing for the first time. What an amazing feeling when I got my first trout to rise to my fly. It happened 4 times that day and I missed all four but wow, was that ever cool. The biggest lesson I learned was not to walk in water deeper than your waders, it kinda bums out your day.

Specific to ice fishing, I caught my first crappie through the ice this year. But my best ice fishing memory was standing over a 6 inch hole in Haliburton, acting as hole man for my buddy Monty who had hooked a huge Muskie on 6 lb test while perch fishing. We got that beast up to the hole 4 times and just couldn't get it through. What an empty feeling when it broke off and swam away. I thought Monty was gonna cry.

Looking forward to reading some other peoples memories.

Spending the night on the ice with a buddy and using all of our smelt on 20 inch and under lakers before 9 a.m. on a tournament day that lasted till 3. Didn't win but made some memories can caught plenty of fish! On the plus side... we didn't run out of beer!

My fav memory every season is the trip I take with a couple buddies, ChowderHead, and Airs24 as well as Chowders dad. We have been doing it for the past 4-5 years and this year we did a quided trip to the Bay of Qunite

here are the results...

My biggest eye

Airs24 biggest eye

ChowderHead landed some nice perch

And here are some from the rest of the group that was out with us..

My daughter Erin caught a walleye of around 30" this summer while fishing with my friends Mark and Armand, pictured above. She didn't want to hold it so I got my Mark to hold it for her and you can see it dwarfs the rest of the stringer of normal sized walleyes in the 17-20" range. Best fish of the year for me.

It isn't my Fav memory but the one I'll remember the most is that I wasn't able to get out on Lake Erie for the first time in about 30 years. Some guys did go out but there was only 5" of ice and thats not enough out on Erie. I'm hoping for more this year
Be safe out there, and set the iron.

My best 2010 memory is this day here;

Ice fishing Lesser Slave Lake, Alberta.  I drove out 3 km's to find out I was in 7 feet of water, another 1 km out and I was in about 12-15 feet of water.  Just Great!!!!

30+ walleye in a day and they averaged out to about 24 inches each.  A great day.

Another great memory was when my brother flew out to Calgary last winter.  We spent the weekend in the Rockies fishing couple lakes and going snowboarding at Marmott Basin.  What a great weekend.

Well it sure is good to be back in Ontario.  Time to get my gear ready as I'm going ice fishing just North East of Thunder Bay....In the Nipigon Area!!!

Not a good memory, but a good lesson.  Getting stuck on Erie on March the day the ice broke up.  After a scary hour or so, we manged to find a way back to shore, but one guy had to be rescued by helicopter.
