Stove pipe question
« on: Nov 12, 2010, 04:56 PM »
I recently bought a wood burning stove from a welder who built a batch of 6 of them, really nice little 1x1x1' stove but theres only 1 problem I've found. It came setup to use 4" stove pipe but I cant find anything like that locally, its all 6-8". Is there any kind of piping that will work for an ice shanty stove other than the "stove pipe"? I need something thats 4" inside diameter. I really dont want to have to modify the stove if I dont have to.

Thanks

Layne

You can try a muffler shop, I bought my 3" pipe for my stove there and a friend of mine got his 4" pipe from one as well. These are exhaust pipes used on diesel trucks, won't be cheap though, I paid $70.00 for a 6 foot piece and he paid over $80.00 for his 6 foot pipe.
Hope this helps.

Nu Way Stove out of MI sells 3" stove pipe kits....maybe you can find a fitting to get you to 3", that may be easier.

This is why I love the internet. I called every hardware store in town but didnt think to call a muffler shop! I even have a friend that works at minute muffler here in Regina. Ive been looking at reducers but everyone Ive talked to seems to think they aren't heavy duty enough to handle the heat, still havent ruled that out though. Thanks guys.

I would sure think that you would be able to find some 4" stove pipe online too that could ship right to your house.

Layne,

If your in Regina your cheapest place might be a place like Russel Metal or some other metal place.  Most of these places only sell bulk metal but will often sell a piece of scrap like Russel Metal did for me.

Yes it does work, just burn the galv off first, it is poisonius
but after that its fine. Also u can try CMS, they have black pipe also.
If u go to WSS ask for Mike
