There's a new book on Amazon called Ice Fishing: The Ultimate Guide by Tim Allard that looks promising. There's a sneak peek on the publisher's website.

I took a look and it looks like there could be some good info in there. Might have to check it out a bit more.

I kayak fish 8 months a year and spend a bit of time on the Rideau in the spring for crappies but generally avoid it all summer due to the heavy boat traffic and will be returning soon as the temps drop for some big fall kayak musky

That book looks ok, but judging by the sections on different equipment and the lack of specific tactics, it looks to be geared more toward beginners.
My personal favorite is "A Hard-Water World". I opened this book in July because I was getting the itch and I could almost smell the cold air and hear the snow crunch under my boots.

To be honest, I have not had the chance to sit down and read the book yet, but I'm trying to find time
But I do know that Tim is an excellent writer, and a stand up guy.

Thanks for posting that Bucketmouth! I'd actually marked it off as a possible book to sell in our shop, along with a couple others we've had before, but hadn't gotten a chance to look it up and check it out. Looks very good!

I have showed it to my wife, so I will get it for X-Mas. Thanks for the info. I like to read anything that will give me tips or new ways to fish.

I ordered it two weeks ago through amazon, and I've pretty much read the whole thing already. It's cover says it all. "Ultimate guide". If you didn't know anything about ice fishing, you can read and be up to date on everything. Lot of basic stuff in the begining, how to layer clothes, basic gear, etc... After all of the equipment and safety chapters, their is a lot on species specifics. A chapter for pretty much every game fish through ice. Bluegill, crappie, perch, walleye, bass, lake trout, whitefish, northern pike, even had a chapter on eelpout. So it covers pretty much everything. If your a ice nut, it's worth the read.
By the way I'm not salesman for the book, hahaha, just thought I'd give you fellow ice nuts a good review of it.

Yea I got it.
It's already been read and put on the shelf.
It's ok, lots of basic stuff.
I guess not many people are writing books these days. It's just easier to make a DVD.
It's a good edition to the fishing library, but I think the Hooked on Ice fishing books by Gruenwald are better.

Great publication. My book was read and is now in the hands of another ice nut. Lots of info and pictures with some familiar faces, even a few shanty members
