I wouldn't recommend a 6" hole, but again a 10" isn't much better. I have had some big pike give me a hard time when in the hole and there is too much room. Personally I think an 8" hole would be the best.
But where I fish a 5 lb pike is an average.

That "someone" should lift some weights.  Drilling a hole is not hard.... ::)
My six year old son loves drilling and we use a 8" blade

when you catch as many like that as we do up here, it gets easy with experience  ;D this never happened by choice and would never recommend a 6" hole when fishing for jacks, but when you're fishing walleyes and a nice gator comes calling a guys gotta get his jig back, right?  roll up the sleeves and get ahold of a gill plate, once the nose is in the hole they come like a rocket.

i have a hard time getting the head started through 3 feet of ice through an 8 inch hole, and im not even comfortable with 8". I would just really like to see it done lol a 40+ pike coming through a 6 inch hole with 3 feet of ice lol get one on video this winter for me! I dont doubt it though since your from SK.

Depends on the size of the pike.  It's not going to be easy regardless.  I've had trouble with 36" in an 8" hole, mainly getting the head pointed upward enough to where I can grab it, it was hooked deep.

You can also spud out the bottom side of your hole so it funnels the fish into it. Just be careful not to leave any grooves for your line to catch in. It's a little tricky the first few times, but a little practice is worth it.

good idea. i wish u would have done that last year when u lost the big one on the ice rod.
i lost a big one also on a ice rod last year because i didn't funnel the hole.
it's a pia but could be worth it.
