R.I.P. Valley Sport
« on: Oct 05, 2010, 02:06 PM »
This might be old news already, but I figured I would post it up anyhow.   Valley Sport in Easthampton is now closed for good, so anyone who planned on gettin bait there this winter should think of baitshop plan b... or start trappin your own bait.

Just wanted to give everyone the early heads up.   Nothing worse than your day of fishing being delayed by lack of bait/shop!

That was a good place to get bait! Right near some good fishing spots, I believe easthampton  feed bought the tanks and plans on selling bait!

That stinks, That is the main reason why we as sportsman need to support our LOCAL shops. If your tackle shop doesn't have something, ask them if they can get it! Sometimes it's OK to wait for something that you want. The big box stores are shutting all of the mom and pop shops out of business and that is also hurting the local economy. We no longer have a shop here in town and it stinks. I wish my wife would let me open one...
If fishing was work I'd never be sick!

Its just crappy in the economy when you know you can get something for sometimes 25% less somewhere else. Its a sad fact, Conglomerates rule the economy.

The one thing you can't get at the big boxes though that you can get at a mom and pop bait shop is advice on where to fish and how to fish what your buying. That advice is worth the trip and extra $ most of the time.

There is a different location in Easthampton that is going to carry bait.

Easthampton Feed bought his bait tank and is selling. Might not be open as early as Valley Sport was, but it's available. Hopefully in the future he can carry some small fishing supplies. Shop local, that way he stays open.... 8)

Sometimes it's not about the fish, but about the fishin'

Just my thoughts. Support the local buisneses.  People are hurting and when your money goes elseware they fail.  I understand we all want big bait for the pike and I can understand trapping for those larger shinners, but if you are running out to take the kids for a few hours of fishing buy your bait from your local shop. mike

Too bas this one was not due to the economy, but bad bookkeeping that the ATF wasn't too thrilled about.

Thats what I heard.   Either way though it was a good little shop, decently well stocked, opened at 6 on the weekends, and the owners always took good care of their regulars.  Sad that its been 86'ed.

Well said Mass_pike and Jeeps - correct.
She said if I went fishing she'd be gone, "I'm gonna miss her"...
