Dear Listoids;
While we wait for ice, we can catch up on the little things. While tuning up the fish finder, I have found that writing down on a piece of cardboard, the foot diameter/area of my cone at different depths helps me understand my fishing tool better. Knowing from the past that my favorite fishing holes have depths of 30, 50 and 80 makes it easy to write down and keep track of.

http://www.furunousa.com/LearningCenter/Transducer-Beam-Angle-Calculator.aspxJust add cone angle and depth!
For a rough estimate of cone area, divide depth by five. This is just a rough estimate depending on cone angle but it works within a foot or two at most depths.
