Where to catch Pike?
« on: Nov 09, 2010, 12:27 PM »
I am a college student in Bozeman and been ice fishing for several years for perch and trout. Looking to plan a trip for some pike this year. Wondering if i could get some help finding a lake that wont break me up of fuel to get to from Bozeman.

Thanks

You're going to be pretty hard pressed to find pike in the Bozeman area. You might think about targeting alternative species such as walleye and ling out of Clark Canyon reservoir. Just a thought (south of Dillon MT). If you are hell bent on catching pike be prepared to travel.

Pishkin, Arod, Frances, Tiber, Fresno, Beaver Cr.Res. - all on the plains to your NE and pretty far for a day trip.

If you can make a weekend of it, Fort Peck is the place to go.  Here is a link to see some pics. http://www.hellcreekmarina.com/

Come down to Castlerock Lake near Colstrip.  Be sure to bring your buddies and take back a truckload of pike.

Seeley and Salmon are about a 3 and 1/2 hour trip for us from Bzm.Fort peck is a lot more. The other ones people are talking are on the Hi-Line.  Seeley/Salmon would be closest. Biggest fish come thru the ice. If you want to make plans for a tourney, go to the Misterpike tourney up there in Jan. Cheap to enter, no limit on fish.
