I may have to switch to a hub type portable from a flipover this year due to buying a pickup with a smaller bed than my old one. I also switched from a topper to a tonneau cover which gives me even less room. How do you guys that have them like your hub type shelters and what size and brand do you like best??? I don't want to take a step backwards and get something that is a pain in the rear to fish out of. I have a two person flipover at this time and am thinking about buying something like a four person hub type shack. I see Clam has one that is six feet by eight feet, but I don't know if it would be too big for me to handle when by myself.   ???
It seems to go from zero to hero all some have to do is lie.

I don't think I would have a problem if I had a different tonneau cover. The type that I have is a hard cover that rolls up into a cannister at the front of the pickup bed. The cannister hangs down about 12" and I don't think the flipover will fit under the cannister. My shack is in storage and I won't know until I get it home. If it wasn't a two man shack I wouldn't have a problem. I kind of think a hub type shack will be what I have to go to.

I use an Eastman "Ice Cube" 4 man shack.....Good Points:  Huge amount of space inside.  Very lightweight.  Comes in it's own carry bag with 4 ice anchors.   Found two faults:  1. Zipper is too lightweight and breaks easily.  2. The skirt has a tendency to freeze to the ice, making take-down difficult.

If you want something that sets up in 30 seconds, this is the way to go.  Very comfy to fish in!!

IceBalls, Have you had any problem with the center hub that the support rods are connected to breaking?

I have the 12ftx6ft Clam outpost hub style it did me well last year. They do need to be anchored down with extra ice screws not included with the shelter. I can't waitto use it again this year! :icefish:
It's the journey, not the destination.
