Nils Master augers
« on: Nov 09, 2004, 10:42 AM »
Hello, does anyone here have the Nils 4.5" hand model auger? If so, what do you think of it. I was searching fo info and cant seem to find much on this auger.  Would like to know if its comparable to the lazer 4" , how much a replacement cutting head is, etc. Thanks for any info.

How about a 6" Nils compared to a 6' lazer?

I have a 6" lazer and a 6" nils. It's no contest the nils is far and away the better auger. They are more expensive and they are worth every penny.

I'll second that!  The Nils is definitely the way to go.

Thanks for the replies guys. I have a lazer 6" and 4" . I think I will get the Nils 4.5. I do alot of gill fishing and think it would fit perfectly between the 4 and 6 inch lazers. Has anyone had to replace their cutting head on their Nils? What do they cost to repace? Thanks for any info.

I have a Nils and it is by far the best auger I've ever owned or used. It drills holes faster and easier than any other brand. The guy I bought mine from has one and has drilled thousands of holes over a 4-5 year period and has not had to change the head or sharpen the blades yet. It still out drills a Lazer.

Are you sure the 4.5" is big enough for what you're going after?  I'd guess that the 6" Nils is as fast or faster then your 4" Laser.  I'd hate to louse a fish because the hole wasn't big enough.

I think the 4.5 is big enough. I was surprised at what would fit through the lazers 4 " hole. The places I would use it are primarilly just gill waters. If I go places that are known to have bigger fish i just bring the 6". Thanks for the info guys.

:D,  hey guys I thought we were talking about hand augers,  I've tested a hand 4.5"nils and it was sweet. I was wondering if the 6' nils was compareable.  I use the floating vex tranducer and would like to do more walleye fishing  and I thought the the 6" would be the bettter size.  Any takes on this? Thanks
guy

Iceguy,
I haven't used the 4.5 or the 6, but I do own an 8. It cuts very nice.
I am leaving the Jiffy at home until there is at least 10 or 12 inches of ice.

iceguy,
I could be wrong but I believe all the nils are interchangeable hand/power augers. When you want to go from hand to power, you simply attach the motor(I think). I'm waiting on a 4.5" hand auger-can't wait, from all I've been reading here it'll put my old 6" mora to shame!

Iceman is correct. All of their power augers also come with the hand auger handle. One quick bolt and you're done

Blaine: Not all Nils augers can convert to the power auger. Some places are still selling the old style that has a short cross bar on top of the main shaft,on these older models that is where the handel comes out of, no place to hook on the power head or an electric drill adapter. When ordering a nils if you think you may what to later add a power head or drill adapter make sure you are getting one where the handel fastens to the auger with a wing nut.

I have the 6" Nils hand auger, & it's excellent.  My buddy & his Laser were put to shame.  He borrowed mine from then on.

Iceguy: There are 2 places that I know of to buy the Nils auger 1.cabelas 2.  HT (877icefish) just make sure you are getting the model that the handel attatches with the wing nut.

Excellent!
