Where should I pike fish?
« on: Feb 26, 2010, 10:15 AM »
I haven't went pike fishing with tip-ups for a long time and want some suggestions.  About 10 years ago I used to go to hamilton lake and lake james but with minimal success.  I don't need anyones secret honey hole just pointed in the right direction.

Last I heard was that Dewart was loaded with pike.

Wawasee pike have either moved or slowed down for me and my buds.

Last fish we caught were on dead bluegills.

Lately the runs we've had were from bass.

Haven't tried deeper water. I've fished the holes in and around 'the slip' and the other end of the lake.

10' deep half way down.

My friend fishes the flats in the middle and he hasn't done better.

I did catch a 9 1/2" gill with some serious cuts on its sides this week.

Came up north to fish hamilton in january and a local said that the pike fishing has been bad for the last few years.  I've heard that they are getting some on pleasant lake though.

I did way back in December and didn't do any good.  My brother-in-law was out there about 2-3 weeks ago and got into some decent perch.  Nothing real big though.

I have herd of Chapman lake being real good for pike. My brother has a place out there. I have never done any good there but is just me.
On the north end there is a channel that will do good for pike.. ( tipups )
Good luck where ever you go.

chapman lake is loaded with pike. bay and channels on the north. the break from the ramp to the channel that connects the two lakes.  around that big sunken island off the south break should be good now.  steep drops on the west look good too but never fished over there.

good luck: RS

Pike are everywhere in Dewart.  Fish the breaks.  There is a good break out from the launch a little ways.  Along the North side there is another break.  I would not think it would take long to find a toothy out there with a few tipups.
