good morning flag pics
« on: Feb 22, 2010, 01:58 PM »
started off this morning at lock 11 on champlain canal in hopes of getting my first legal walleye this winter. so far 5 eyes and nothing over 15 inches. about 30 minutes into the morning i was greeted with a flag waving hello  ended up with a small yellow perch.

about 10 minutes later i got this beautiful pic 2 flags at once, another perch and a miss

little eye  all have been like this, so far this year. hope he gets bigger.

after a few more flags i set up the jig stick and got some nice perch and after a few minutes went after a flag on my way back i see the tip of the stick in the hole i set the hook and i had a good one. was this going to be my first keeper eye???????? afterall the previous flag next to it was a small eye

nope it was a northern and someone had already caught her before and she was bleeding, look at the leader hanging out of it's mouth. then when i got home and filleted her i saw a rather large hook in her belly. no wonder she was bleeding so much. **censored**???? did they really need a hook that big   ::)  i don't think there are sharks in the canal, damn morons!

They guys I fish with are still amazed that I catch good pike with #8-12 trebles. Small hooks that even, if they go deep the fish will desolve them pretty quickly, and still have room to feed and survive. If I don't decide to fillet them lol.
