that was the last straw with me i used to get atleast half of my outdoors stuff from wl-mart mostly because there arn't any tackle shops around where i live they r all about a 20min drive :-\ but after them not giving 2 $#!!$ less about us sportsman they can forget it ill drive >:(

I remember when I used to think 20 minutes was far.  That's nothing when you live in a big city.  I'd consider that close.

Walmart has very little for me as well.  I pretty much avoid it.  Never had any ice fishing gear and very little fishing gear at all locations I have been to here in Canada.

Good to see people are going back to the smaller stores.

Sometimes it is either that... or American Jobs are shipped overseas to someone who lives off of 1-2$ a day.

I'd rather keep jobs here - I'll buy American.

The wal-mart around here used to have 3 aisles of fishing stuff. Now there is lucky to be 1/2 of a aisle. The bait shop down the road has more gear then wal-mart does.

I have not stopped shopping there completely, but have switched over to TARGET and other stores for most of my shopping. As for fishing equipment, I have bought none at Wal-Mart in many years, however I still do buy my sporting licenses there.

I remember when wal-marts here carried ice gear, well some did, the nearest one that did now it just keeps the fly gear year round. I have 8 walmarts within 30  minutes of me and it seems none of them carry the same stock or have the same stuff on clearance.

Many years ago I bought my first Dave Genz Fish Trap II at Walmart. They used to carry Jiffy and Strikemaster augers. Vexilars, Clam, Frabill and HT shacks. Now they don't carry hardly nothing. I'm all for this helping the mom and pop stores but when they did carry this stuff they gave Gander, Bass Pro, Scheels and Cabelas some competition. That's what I miss. Fin

Walmart drives all the mom and pops from the area.  Then they drop the things mom and pop were selling.

I hate having to go into a walmart, but with nothing local, I have to.
When walmart was coming into a new area, everyone was all excited about how much they could save and how many jobs it would make.  When we started trying to save an extra 50 cents, we did so at our own peril.  Now we are owned by Walmart.  At least until the next big box store comes in and takes them out.

Like many have stated, the Walmarts by me HAD lots of ice fishing stuff, but the past 2 years they have reduced their stock by 3/4. They may have 2 different crap tipups and some junk rod/reel combos and hooks that the normal ice fisherman wouldn't buy, but other than that, they don't have anything. I heard that they want to keep their stock "general" and dont want to have the seasonal items.  They have restocked their shelves with baseball, football, golf, and camping stuff that most people wont buy now. THEIR LOSS!

I haven't bought any ice fishing stuff from them for a good 3 years. I buy from the bait shops, and the "fleet farms" that carry everything I need.

I don't know about how it is around you all but here in Cent. Illinois the walmarts have had some nice sporting goods in past...in the last 2 or 3 years that has been reduced to a 1/4 of what it was.  Now all the "mom and pop" sporting goods we did have are out of buisiness....it is very difficult to find decent fishing / hunting equipment here.  I really think we did this to ourselves and it's really biting us in the arse....sorry fellas :(

There's a method to there madness, when they first come into town they have great prices, after they drive all the small business out they jack them back up or camoufladge thier products like Chinese Goodyears. Now they are going after the restaurants by selling pizzas and such, seems an awful lot like the old " Company Store" to me,I owe my soul to the company store, ain't that how it went. This country better wise up before it's too late! :'( :'( :'( IMHO

I agree it seems every few years they remodel and the hunting/fishing stuff gets less and less. I try to support the local shops but the two closest are outragesly overpriced and if your not a regular you almost feel unwelcome there. When I do find a shop I like they go out of business.

Here in Milwaukee the K-Mart and Wall Mart stores do not carrie ice fishing items.  They both did for years and era is over.  Gotta go to bait stores or Huge sports stores and pay the high prices. I guess icew fishing low on the totem pole around here.  Can't find parking at the lakes for ice fishing in the parking lots so ice fishing must be of interest.

nothing here in western massachussetts wal-marts either    **censored**!!!

The Wal-Mart in Pittsfield (or it might be Dalton, not sure) has at least 3-4 different types of tip-ups, shelters, scoops, jigging poles, and I believe they even have hand augers.

With less money to spend Americans began to rely on walmart to supply them with everything.  The cost of this kind of thinking is the loss of small nitch businesses.  Our small town looks like a ghost town as all of the specialty shops have gone out of business.  We need to band togeather and support our local bait stores.  If you buy your tackle at a big chain store we will lose our place to buy bait.  Try asking some minimum wage kid at wally world where the fish are biting.  The extra buck they charge at the baitstore is worth it to keep them afloat.  Buy local and support American businesses.

I hardly go to walmart for fishing supply.  Sometimes they do have what I'm looking for.  Most of the time, they don't.

The local WalMarts here do carry some ice fishing gear but the selection is limited & I don't find them priced any better the the local tackle stores which have a greater selection and quality items also. Just guess where the greatest majority of my money is spent?

SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL BAIT SHOPS, AND SPORTING GOODS STORES.

I try not to give Walmart too much of my money.  The more research I do the less I want to contribute to the crumbling of America.

a great big ditto on this one..........even if i had to pay 10-15% more at my local store , i would because i see walmart as monopolistic and destructive to America.........
