I believe so, it's like a boat, car ect..  You have to pay town taxes, personel property.

The state makes you pay to register, state taxes, yearly town tax and don't even give you
a place to ride like MA and some other states do with trails.  This state is bad with taxes.

Technically, I believe the town you live in would expect you to voluntarily pay a "use" tax on your atv, but I don't think they will chase you down for it.

Just reg. my ATV today the town tax dept. said that the tax on my 04 would be $44 a year and if its reg. and you don't pay the taxes then you will have a problem re-reg any other vehicles don't know if this is a town thing or a state thing but that's all i know about it hope it helps you can call the tax assessors office in your town for a sure answer

DMV sends motor vehicle info for street legal vehicles such as cars motorcycles, etc., (trailer not the boat thing) to the towns. That is why you cannot reregister  street legal vehicles without paying your taxes. The person at the town is not giving accurate info. You went to the town tax dept. and told them you had an atv that is why they quoted you a tax fee. They wouldn't get that info from the DMV.

I am registered in NY, so was not sure. When I was in CT they seem to tax everything..

On the ATV subject, anyone know if Bantam is ok to bring my NY registered quad on, ice ok and legal issues?

thanks..

Thanks. The whole reason I wanted to reg. in NY  was to avoid CT personal property tax.

Maybe this is a town by town thing. I get tax bills for boat and trailer. And I'm pretty sure my friends with registered snowmobiles get bills too.
Now for the big question?   Will the DEP let a Ct. resident run an atv with NY registration?
Sometimes it feels like I live in a Pat McManus story!

And to think we once started a revolution over a tax on tea!  Well, that's what they tell you is one of the reasons.

If you live in CT, and register your ATV in CT, you will get a property tax bill from the town you live in.

I get a bill every year. >:( :(

NY reg. is no good in CT.  You need a CT reg to ride anywhere in CT except your own land.
