Hello New York!
« on: Jan 21, 2013, 11:59 PM »
Just wanted to say a quick hello to you all. I just joined Ice Shanty, knowing it will be of help to me the rest of this year and in the future. I will be moving down to Westchester County for work next week and plan on fishing for sure since i will be bringing all my gear. The past several years I have fished Maine and Mass. and hope to do the same in NY. Would love to be able to meet up and fish with some of you this season so don't hesitate to send me a message or get back to another one of my posts in the near future looking to hit the ice.  Thanks!

                            Will

Welcome Willhunting if you have already moved or once you get settled be sure to check out the S.E.N.Y. /BS thread . It contains mostly post from Ice Shanty members located in that area of New York . Also post a few more times and you will have access to the reports and conditions page for NY. plus the personal message feature . I past years we have tried to have at least one outing per ice season. I'm located on the other side of Hudson River and north of you by the city of Newburgh.
I do not know how long you have to be in residence to purchase a resident fishing license, they are available at city/town halls and sport/bait shops. When you get your license also ask for the regulations booklet so you can get familiar with the regulations here in New York.

Willhunting to fish the reservoirs in Westchester county you will need a separate permit in addition to your fishing license. The reservoirs are part of the New York City water supply system. a N.Y.C. agency called Department of environmental protection(dep) controls them and issues the permit. This is explained along withwhere to get the permit in the booklet you get with your state fishing license. We also have special regulations by county, they divide the state into regions westchester is in region 3 . In New York Ice fishing is not permitted on trout bearing waters under NY. general regulations. so there are special exceptions by county where you can fish certain trout waters.
I will stop before I confuse you, Have a safe trip to New York.
