Problems with a 10" jiffy auger
« on: Feb 11, 2010, 08:42 PM »
I'm wondering if anybody has had a problem with a Jiffy auger cutting out half way thru making a hole. I can restarts it with one pull, then I complete the hole.
I am wondering what the issue could be. My buddy did rebuild the carburetor but it is still happening. Any suggestions?

Could be a faulty pump diaphram in the carb.  Funny, since I refurbed my Strikemaster after being under water for a week, the same thing just started happening. I did not replace anything, so this is where I am going first.  I can deal with it until after the season is over though...  Definately seems to me like a fuel delivery issue...

Could also be something going on with the govener linkage... I need to diagnose but its a minor annoyance for me... Let me know what you find...

Thanks Flaggs
We did replace the diaphram so I know that isn't the problem. We'll keep checking.
If we solve it I give you the heads up as to what it was.

try running it with the choke half open.  if it cuts ok with the choke half open, the carb is running too lean. the can be easily adjusted.

Sounds like it's running out of gas? maybe you got a small piece of gunk in the tank that get's sucked over the inlet to the fuel line and it dislodges when it shuts off? I would drain the tank and start with fresh gas first.

Mine is 20 years old. This is the first problem I've had.

over the years, the rings get worn and you will loose compression.  I think you just need a little more gas which is what leaving the choke half on will help.  On really cold days, mine runs perfect with the choke fully closed.... and mine is 40 years old

Less we forget, the gasoline available today sucks! ethanol raises havoc with 2 stroke!

93 octane, 50:1 synthetic, 1/2 oz of startron and a dash of Marvel Mystery oil is what I put in each gallon when I mix it.

What brand of engine do you have on your Strikemaster?
It seems to go from zero to hero all some have to do is lie.

PROBLEM SOLVED,
Originally the diaphram was defective but when my friend rebuilt the carburetor he put the gasket on the wrong side of the new diaphram. It was discovered this afternoon. It now runs like a charm.
You hit it right on the nose Flaggs. Your comment is what had him double check the diaphram.
Thanks to everybody for their help.
