Mainers helping one of their own
« on: Jan 27, 2010, 10:55 AM »
I am sorry, this is off the fishing topic, but hit close to home for me.
My good Friend Chris Smith who lives in Kezar Falls here in southern Maine lost his house to a nasty fire... topped off with a lay off, and other stuff.
Well he needs help re-building, and Mainers don't leave Mainers out in the cold (unless they are Ice Fishin')
We are having a benefit dance/ Sketti dinner for him and his family out in Kezar Falls at the Legion hall Feb 13th 6-9pm if any or all of you guys can make it, that would be great!

Just RSVP to me in a PM here or my email [email protected] suggested donation is $7.00 a plate.

100% of everything we get is going to help Chris get back on his feet. The FB invite is here.
http://www.facebook.com/#/event.php?eid=268378543300

We need your help. He's a helluva good guy, who got dealt a bad hand last weekend.

Builditrite, if this is an inappropriate place for this post, I am sorry, just didn't know where else to put it, & I have a lot of friends that frequent this board.

Thats Fine, It is a long drive.
I also forgot if anyone just wants to help out a good guy, who is trying like hell to deny he needs the help (my friend Chris), PAYPAL donations are being taken at : [email protected]
Shannon is going to make him take that stinkin' check pride or not. His daughter lost all the clothes she had at his house.

Thankfully Chris wasn't home, and his little girl was at her moms. Everyone was safe and sound, just lives got turned upside down.

Redband.... I agree
You guys are great! REALLY great! feel good about what you are doing.

Its funny Redband should say that. I was telling our friend Shannon who is collecting the paypals the other day, Its too bad Chris isn't Haitian, he would have money falling out of his pockets.
I dropped off a load of clothes for his daughter Tuesday. He is very grateful for everything. He is a hard working guy, a good dad, a sound investment.

BTW has some good machinist experience. Just needs a place to apply that isn't feeling the horrid squeeze of our economy right now. Some construction experience too.

Dang! A tough spot to be in.

If Mr. Smith's daughter could use some more clothes, let me know what sizes. My teenage daughter has a closet full of stuff she has out grown.
I just want to fish.

Maine T, when we show up to pick up that rather large order of smelts we talked about today by phone, I'll certainly try to make sure I chip in for the cause...

Let us know if there's any particular items that area needed...

Thanks, We actually got the clothes pretty well covered at this point. I was really surprised to see how much support was out there. She is now well clothed. Good folks coming out of the woodwork for our friend. Now he's just hanging in there couch surfing while the fire marshal and insurance company coordinates and gets their act together.

Thanks joe... this is great! He told me Tuesday he could really use some Long Johns (size 32x34) med shirt. other than that its green, this in between time with the marshals report and insurance company has ground everything to a halt. Looks like the whole thing started from his new EMachine!

As is sit here an read thsi my heart bleeds for them as I lost 5 family members to a fire when I was a little tike and my friends brither just lost his house to a dryer fire.  I just spoke to wife and even though we are from out of state we are all one team here in the usa also times are tuff but if we all contribute just a little bit we can get this done.  Also please let me know what size cloths for chris and his daughter and I will see what I can pick up around here.

As far as the pride thing tell chris I know what that feels like as I was on the other side of that as my family and friends raised money to help me pay for a much needed operation in which I would have not been able to have the bills paid for that I had .  I would have been screwed.

yup. I'll be headed out to kezar later this week. we just got storage for home goods too until he starts building. washer dryer, dishwasher, blankets, flatware, pots pans, stove... whatever. he will have just enough if the insurance maxs out the claim to get back a totally empty house.

i live in kezar and know chris. he used to date my best friends sister. i could see the fire from my house and its a terrible situation. we have a great valinteer F.D. here in kezar falls and they did a great job of containing the fire from spreading to both places either side of him.

Yes, thanks again guys!
Ice shanty guys have come out of the woodwork... and goods as far away as Rhode Island for my buddy Chris!
His daughter is now officially well clothed, so thanks for all the offers.

If there happens to be an overflow of anything, I want you all to rest assured that the plan is to find someone as deserving who needs a hand, and let them have what Chris couldn't use.

Right now, the only thing left to do is gather the green to hold him over until the insurance gets in action.

My freind in Hebron lost his log cabin to fire 2 years ago. After a year of hell and fighting with the insurance company he ended up better off than he was before the fire. my advice is don't let the insurance company push you around, fight for whats yours!

Maine t we might  have a real good lead on teh build in dishwasher.  I have also gathered some silverware forks spoonsbutter knives and such.  I am also going to ask each family member to donate one coffee cup so we should have all that stuff squared away for chris.

Tell chris to keep his head up it will all come together just do not hold it all in let it out when he has too as it will build up and eat him away.

Hey Maine - sorry to hear about your buddy's loss.  I work for Olympia Sports and we have a Clothing Bank set-up to assist in circumstances exactly like this - right in line with the Mainers helping their own concept.  The best point of contact would be Ann-Marie at our Store Support Center - the number is (207) 854-2794 and her extension is 136.  Should she ask, you may say you heard about the program from Mike F.  Best wishes for your friend.
