I'm using one that I un-retired last year which was on one of my earlier boats (still use it in my canoe). I took an old cross-framed tip-up, took one arm off it and attached the transducer to the bottom where the reel was. Then I drilled more holes up the vertical shaft to be able to set the remaining cross-arm so the transducer is just under the ice no matter how thick the ice gets, up to about 1 foot. After that, it sits in the hole not tucked to one side.
I put it on max scroll speed, fish ID on 3 sizes, and sensitivity all the way up. It does not mark small jigs but a large spoon or (#5) Swedish Pimple with piece of bait, it does. Fish on the bottom look like clutter. When a fish rises to the bait, it marks it as a fish. But you do not see the bait and fish 'become one' when you get a strike like using a flasher. The
Power Sonic battery was purchased online and is identical to the flasher sized batteries which actually are designed originally for (hallways etc) emergency power-outages.
Is a flasher or Lowrance better? Yes. But it is also better than nothing because it will see suspended fish to let you know how deep to put your presentation.
My transducer is for a Lowrance however. I don't know where the original 'ducer went. Not on my boat because that has an Eagle fish finder. It is definitely a stop gap for me until I can buy a better system.
