Walleye fishing the Mohawk
« on: Feb 03, 2010, 07:11 PM »
Hey I,m from Binghamton and was wondering if there are walleye in the mohawk around Amsterdam and are there sections to ice fish. Was thinking of trying a new river out, but would like some general feed back not anybodies honey holes. Would be more than happy to trade info about the Chenango and Susquehanna.

There indeed is eyes in the mohawk. I myself dont fish the river. I fish the canal which runs along side it.  Although down near amsterdamn the river and canal run together.  Hardwater fishin on rivers spooks me a little to be honest.  Im sure it'll produce tho.  I fish up near Herkimer on the canal and have decent luck jiggin up walleyes.  So YES would be the answer.  There mohawk def holds good numbers of eyes.  My personal opinion is the state record is lurkin in there somewhere..lol.

There are no fish in the Mohawk River!!!   Good luck. Just be careful ice fishing the river. I do, but have been doing so for years. I KNOW the spots I fish and how the weather affects them. If you don't know  the area good, I would NOT go alone. And the person you take should know the area you are fishing. Maybe you fish rivers and already know this but I'd rather tell you what you already know then for there to be another tragedy. You'll find a few Eyes in the Mohawk. But you gotta FIND them !

i rely on the mohawk for about 75% fo my yearly eyes. i wait till may... i have ice fished above lock6 at night with no luck and being on the river scares the....out of me.it a great spring irver, slow in the summer unless you hit it right and really good during deer season . i see some eyes come throught the ice close to shore around lock 7 but not consistently.
friends dont let friends fish dead holes.
