NW Iowa Big Sioux Rec Area
« on: Feb 08, 2010, 10:59 PM »
Anyone been fishing the Big Sioux Rec area in Hawarden?  I tried for a few hours Saturday and found the bite to be extremely slow.  My buddy caught a couple dink gills but that was it.  Anyone else finding any luck up here in the far Northwest.

I was going to try to get out there Sat. morning also, but didn't make it.  A guy I work with was out there the weekend before, and said he caught his limit of blue gills in the morning.  I'm going to try it this weekend after I get off of work on Sat.

Are you guys talking aout the south Pit?
Every plastics manufacturer claims plastics outfish livebait. So now I use livebait just for the increased challenge.

Yea, its south of town, but thats the furthest "south pit" i know of. Just opened to public last summer-ish. Close to the river. Need a sticker to get in. I never knew it was there untill sioux county conservation bought it. A couple of old guys i know use to fish there. But, went once in summer and no luck. But with a little time I think it could be alright. A lot of the other pits are private? not sure but thats what i have heard.

yeah the south pit is what I mean.  The ice there is fine and will work with a quad if you have 4X.  If not, you'll get stuck.
