I'm just wondering how many of you camp on ice and if a Jason ,Mitchell thermal hub 5000 would be a good choice and any ideas to make it more comfortable ?..

Get a cot.  It is warmer higher up. Put a thermarest pad on it to block the cold from below. Add a good sleeping bag and you'll be OK.  Wear a wool hat or fleece hood/mask to keep head and face warm.  Do NOT pull the bag over your head as the moisture in your breath will negate the insulating properties of the bag.  If you use a Buddy heater keep a vent open to get fresh air.  Setting it on top of an inverted bucket keeps the ice frozen so the floor stays dry.

Use a Mr Buddy heater. They have a low O2 shutoff switch!

Good advice In the posts above, I had planned to do a winter camping on the ice last season however there was 2ft of snow and 6 inches of water on the ice so that cancelled that plan, instead we camped on land. Keep an eye on conditions to avoid the water/slush issue, definitely need a dry floor to make the stay enjoyable.  We were in a pop up tent with cots which were essential, also a tarp over the top of your tent will prevent moisture build up on the inside, without it you will get dripped on all night.

This really might sound dumb but when you stay out like that what do u use for a restroom. 5 gallon bucket with a seat on it or do you have portable toilets with a pop up privy.  ???

5 gal bucket and a garbage bag inside it works good. Leave it outside when not in use. A seat is not required.  A smaller bucket for #1 in the night can go under the cot.

Yup..."it" freezes so there is no smell. I line my "dooky pail" with a large trash bag. Then use smaller bags for each use. When the trip is over, pull the big bag with all the smaller bags in it...and find a dumpster.

There are commercially made/sold bucket toilets one is called the Lugable Loo . It is manufactured by a company called Reliance comes with seat-lid and bucket. Special liner bags are available also portable urinals can be found at some drug stores. Gearheart's idea will work fine maybe throw some sand or cat litter in bottom of bag to absorb any liquids.
