Fish Finder question
« on: Jan 19, 2010, 05:50 PM »
I have one of those portable fishfinders that I use in the summer,  it's an Eagle.....something,  anyways its not one of those fancy flash sonar puppies like the marcum,   just the one where the screen keeps scrolling,   My question is will that pick up burbot on the bottom of a lake in 60-80 FOW

I think you need to have one thats more sensitive, because ours, (you've seen it), you zoom in on the bottom but it still doesn't really show the fish.. even when we are rainbow fishing..

good question! you should give it a try and then you'll know for sure. I've got the same portable and thought about designing a rod and base system to hang the transducer in the hole. I think you would have to crank the sensitivity and reduce the scroll speed.

Actually you want the scroll speed as high as it goes so you can see your jig and the fish better.
If your finder has the grey line deal for telling the bottom composition it will be easier to see the bottom hugging fish also.

This video shows you what to look for on the screen.
Notice how fast the screen is scrolling, this is for realtime response like the flashers.
