Bluegill waters?
« on: Feb 25, 2010, 12:34 PM »
Question for the masses-

Where can a guy catch bluegills in WY? I'm talking gills the size of your hand? Consistently? Gillette city pond?
So many fish, so little time.

I don't think there are any good gill lakes in WY.  I could be wrong but none stand out.

I know of two very good lakes in Utah, quite a drive from NE WY though.

There are some ponds over by newcastle that have some pan fish in them.I dont know how big they are.
If you are going to cry be quick about it. Then get back to fishing.

There are some ponds in between midwest and Kaycee that hold very nice sized bluegills 6-10 inch range tons of them! :o
Great thing about ice fishing is, if the fish don't bite at least you know the "BEER" will stay cold!

What lakes are the ones between midwest and kaycee that would not be too far of a drive for me.

I'm with Moose Juice.  Pelican Lake in UT is awesome.  I've fished it in winter and summer.  The gills are absolutely huge!  They have been saying the new world record gill will come out of Pelican some day.  I don't doubt it.  They have some strange parasitic problem in the lake.  The signs at the  boat ramp are enough to scare a person.

Yeah those grubs are strange.

I hear they are easy to poke out with a knife tip...  They are actually supposed to be harmless granted you cook your fish.

Extra protein anyone? ;D

They USED to be full of big panfish. All the big ones are long gone. There's still lots of little ones to annoy you! The ponds are south of Kaycee about 5 miles, on the east side of the interstate. You can see them from the interstate. They used to be in the walk-in fishing magazine, I assume they still are. The produced water (oil/gas well water) that flows into them can be pretty stinky sometimes. Smells like Yellowstone!

The ponds down by Kaycee do not have bluegills in the they are green sun fish and yes they are full of little one to steal all your bait but they are lots of fun to catch and if you have kids they will have a blast
