Most all CT license fees have doubled, and the extra money is getting dumped in the general fund.  >:( >:( >:(

I got this email from the Connecticut Trappers Association. The Coalition of Connecticut Sportsmen along with hunting and trapping groups are trying to get the fees reduced. Please read this and get in touch with your reps and ask them to support the fee reduction:

YOUR communications with State legislators have proved beneficial!

The following are State Representatives & Senators who have indicated Support of the Sportsmen Fee Reduction to a 20-25% increase of the previous 2009 Fees rather than the 100% increase.

Thank these supportive legislators for their interest and efforts.

E-mail, and Write, and Phone Call YOUR State  Representative and State Senator - urge them eliminate the doubling of fees and  SUPPORT a reasoned increase. See procedures at end.

There are MANY other legislators who will support this proposal. We need YOU to contact them and provide feedback to us should they make a commitment of Support or Opposition.  [email protected]

RE: Roll back of DEP Hunting/Fishing Fee Increases

Dear. Sen. Williams,

The doubling of Hunting and Fishing permit fees authorized in HB 6802 has been the source of complaints from many constituents around the state, Approximately 180,000 Connecticut residents pay these fees each year. We are proposing that the attached list of fees be increased by 20% rather than being doubled.

Doubling of fees would generate $4.3 million. Our proposal would reduce the fee increase to 20% and offset the difference by increasing a number of motor vehicle related infractions. Here's the breakdown:

    * 20% increase in Hunting & Fishing Permits                                                                  $860,000
    * Increase seat belt fine from $15-$25 (Not increased since 1985)                                 $530,000
    * Increase base fine for motor vehicle infraction from $35-$50 (Last done 1984)         $2,500,000
    * " Establish $100 fee for D VI work & school permit application                                    $600,000

Total                                                                                      $4,490,000

Revenues that flow to the Transportation Fund will result in the General Fund transfer being reduced by an equivalent amount

.

In addition, by raising the revenue from those who commit motor vehicle infractions, the onus is removed from hunters and fishers and placed on a yet unidentified population. Finally, by quickly reducing the fee increases, the impact of the earlier changes can be minimized.

We hope you will consider making this change in any deficit mitigation bill to be taken up by the legislature.

     Sincerely

This info was provided by Sen. DeFronzo, who wrote the letter, at a meeting with Bob Crook & Ray Hanley. The proposal was floated at the December Deficit Reconciliation Session, but ran out of time.

You can find your CT legislator at this http://www.cga.ct.gov/maps/townlist.asp  or in the Blue pages under “Connecticut, State of” then “Legislators”. Also, inform your friends who have an interest. Ask them to communicate.

Use your own words, tell them how this outrageous doubling of fees will affect you and the state, use the KISS principle, and please…do not be insulting or negative towards Any Senator, Representative, or anyone else in the Capitol.  Identify yourself and Town, State your position and why you Support or Oppose the doubled increase. Be Brief, if they have questions they will ask. Ask for a response to your communication!

Oh...and spread the word. The more who complain the better our chances of having these ridiculous fees reduced. Then throw the bums out in November. Their spending is way, way out of control.

if you guys are up on your federal regs, if a state doesn't places all fishing and hunting license money into a strictly wildlife fund, not the general fund, they loose all federal money for wildlife and all pittman robertson money we all pay into when buying our supplies. so how much are we giving up as a state by putting the license money into the general fund....

Cooperation of Secretary with the States. The Act authorizes the Secretary of the Interior (Secretary) to provide federal aid to state fish and game departments for wildlife restoration projects. To be eligible for federal funds, a state must assent to the provisions of the Act and have laws governing the conservation of wildlife. Additionally, a state must have a law prohibiting the diversion of license fees paid by hunters for any purpose other than the administration of the state's fish and game department.  All wildlife-restoration projects aided under the Act must be agreed upon by the Secretary and the fish and game department of the state where the project is located. § 669.

its just that we now do not qualify for federal money, like rebuilding wetlands, or getting the tax money we all pay on supplies. nothing she can get arrested for, just look like a fool....

The way I understand it our liscence fees have been going to general fund for a long time.

Yes, they have, and our legislature, which constantly claims they are "strict environmentalists," stand by as federal funds go to other states. This is what happens when you dig holes so deep you can't climb out of them.
