Ice Fishing Tournaments
« on: Dec 22, 2009, 09:40 PM »
I may have missed this topic ... but i'm wondering if anyone knows when any ice fishing tournaments are in the Black Hills area. I know there's one at Sheridan in early January, but don't know exact dates. Anyone know?
Thanks!

Great question there KingCat.  Are you the fishing pro that I heard you were???  ::)

Anyway, I believe BH Anglers sponsored a tournament at Sheridan Lake last year and there used to be another tournament at Sheridan Lake in February but I'm not sure if they are still hosting it and have not heard any firm dates of tournaments at all this year.

Stockade Lake also has had some Ice tourney's as well.

Anyone else heard of any ice fishing tournaments in the hills???

Hey I am pretty sure that I had posted some info on a tournament at Sheridan Lake that I no longer see so thought I'd "re-post" the info.

The ice fishing tournament at Sheridan Lake is on Jan 31st and is hosted by the Black Hills Anglers.  It is a team tournament with two divisions (Perch and Pike) with approx 10 to 11 spots paid depending on number of participants.  Applications are available at most Bait/Tackle shops.

Hope to see y'all out there....should be a good one.

Haven't heard of a tournament at Newell Lake Bauger but if I hear anything I'll definitely reply on this topic.  Hopefully we get some more replys with information on ice fishing tournaments.  I was told that Common Cents is no longer hosting their tournament at Sheridan Lake so that is a bummer.  Hopefully someone else steps in and sponsors another tournament at Sheridan Lake.

The only other tournament that I have heard rumors of in the area is the Boy Scouts tournament at their lake (Alexander) on Jan30th but I do not have any further info on this tournament other than it is a unique tournament which costs about $50 per hole.

BTW thanks Rocky for the info on the ice fishing tournament at Richmond Lake.  NAIFC is a good tournament and should be alot of fun for all.  Anytime you can have that much fun with Crappie & Sunfish, it can't be all that bad.

I talked to Ken Edel (Black Hills Anglers director) last week and he said the Sheridan Derby is January 30th or 31st, I can't remember which. I might do it again this year. I got 5th place two years ago. It's a pretty good time.

Sheridan one is always fun, too bad the Common Sense one that used to be held out there shut down a couple years ago....

There is one usually held at Newell (small local tourney from what I understand, I think sponsored or put on by a local club. But have heard it's fun, like ice fishing isn't?)

I recently heard a rumor of another, but can't recall details.

Soon there is a LARGE tourney a bit farther away on the river that has huge numbers of prizes...

And the Annual Devils Lake tourney in ND....

depending on how far you want to travel.

Not enough ice or time... not necessarily in that order.

Ice fishing tourneys are pretty fun there should be more of them out here. More and more people are fishing Sheridan these days, there could be one out there more than once a winter. It wouldn't need to be about catching the most/biggest fish (top prizes would be) but you could do like Mobridge does and pay every 33rd place etc. We took 26th in the mobridge tourney a couple years ago, didn't win anything, but my buddy's team took 193rd or something and won $200 bucks. I am heading to the big ice tourney up in Brainerd at the end of the month. I'm hoping for that 20 pound pike so i can drive home a new truck!
