Spike containers
« on: Dec 16, 2008, 05:07 PM »
When you buy your bait from wholesalers what do use to bring them on the ice. I'm thinking of getting 1,000 and it looks like they send them in a plastic bag. I also was wondering how long they'll stay in the fridge without turning. Thanks for the help.

I use bait pucks made by Strike Master. Only take enough bait for a trip, I have used spikes for spring crappie fishing that were purchased in December. Follow the storage instructions from your bait supplier. I purchase my sikes from JA-DA Bait.

I use ice breakers little sour candy boxes the have a share side with a big opening and a not to share side that only pops out one. They work nice and it keeps the kids on the low down when the eyes are biteing they get the candy I get the empty box and fish.

I use Altoids tins.  Take what you need for the day.  No losing hinged lid, hard to crush, easy to keep in your pocket.

Keep one for waxworms, one for spikes, one for mousies, etc.

An old pill bottle.   Something that will fit into my pocket to keep them warm.

Lets see, use chew cans their cheap. Unless you have to deal with the negative affects of chewing tobacco for years.Personally I'll pay for a container.

I use bait pucks as well, love them. Once I need a third type of bait I'll probably grab an Altoids tin, they're useful for so many things!!!

After years of the plastic lids opening on the worm style containers in my pockets and emptying waxies all over i'm looking into the strikemaster bait cups. Are these bait cup a screw on type lid or do they pop off like a chew can? I want something that won't open in my pocket by accident.

Thanks,
Kevin

I've used a lot of things over the years, but the best free container,is a flat aspirin bottle,it has a small snap off cap,the small opening just shakes out one wax worm at a time or a few mags.Plus it lays flat in your pockets, Don't take all 1000 mags out on the ice,if kept the rest in fridge in the plastic bag as cold as you can, they will last at least 6 weeks.Keep wax worms in a cool place 50 ish,and they will last as long.

Been using the little containers my wife gets her "body butter" in. They resemble the Strike Master type but a bit smaller... they work great and are double walled for a little insulation along with a screw on lid.

same here i had a few of them then sum how they came up missing after a fishing trip.. so now i jus have my old snuff cans...either one is a good option plus alot cheaper.
