Very Important update!
« on: Feb 05, 2016, 06:32 AM »
I have been told by a very reliable source  that there is a huge 6 foot wide fissure in front of the dam  in the ice at Buckley Dunton that is 10 feet long and across usual access. It is about 150 feet from shore and has a skim coat of ice on it and 5 inches of snow.It is wicked dangerous!!!!!!Please use caution wherever you go.
Being on ice is nice but the tug is the drug.

The pond had 10 inches of solid ice on Monday so I was surprised when he texted me the alert!

I checked a spot with about 1K feet of elevation and it was around 7 inches last weekend and it has deteriorated to about 2.5 inches.  I broke through the ice for about 12 feet and then got on ice that could support my weight (190lbs plus the ion so like 215).  Old holes were the size of man hole covers as well.  Good ice will be tough to find.  I'll be checking another spot later today but check as you go if you venture out.  There are a lot of hidden dangers with this snow.

I know right? Jeff guess where im headed tomorrow!!!!

Do any of you guys avoid fishing sketchy ice just on the basis of knowing others will fillow you out?  I do...last thing I want is to see is a neighborhood kid, resident, ect go in because they see me fishing...

Nope , I'm not responsible for anyone but myself or if my kids go!  You will NEVER stop the "it's safe they are fishing on it" people.

The ice was dangerous before this snowpack now it's just plain crazy you can't see open holes, ridge lines etc. I debating breaking out the rod and reel and trying some open water tommorow.

This is the ABSOLUTE MOST IMPORTANT time to check every step with your chisel and DO NOT sway from your path at all!  Set up in a straight line and sit at one end of the line, STAY IN YOUR CHECKED PATH !

No question with that snow pack. Otherwise you are playing russian roulette with a good chance of losing.
