Homemade Ice fishing box
« on: Dec 29, 2009, 02:49 PM »
last winter I saw a fisherman using an sled in Vermont, he called a Fishing box. It was constructed on a pair of skis and had a simple storage and seating for a typical day of ice fishing. The part hat caught my attention was it had a clear front that held a colman lantern. This not only provided light but a source of heat and a spot to slide your hands in to warm them up. According to him this is a typical type of sled used in the Mid West. As I can't seem to find this on any web site, dose anyone know what the official name of this is. I have been trying to find one on line so I could build one.
See you on the Water Johnny Q

I know that years ago my grandfather built a similar sled and used to heck out of it on Lake Huron fishing for perch. I have seen commercially built sleds similar to the one that you are talking about. I will do a web search and see if I can come up with something for you. His sled had poles and canvas to make a wind break which was a nice feature. Good luck on your search.

I know somebody that made one of those. He said it "burned real good". He's not sure how the fire started cuz he wasn't sitting on it at the time.
Damn it......dropped another minnow!
