Can't wait any longer - Massy tomorrow
« on: Dec 22, 2009, 03:40 PM »
I will be catching 20 inch Rainbows tomorrow at Massy, Scott will be there too ....to test the ice for me. I just can't wait another day to get out there or I'll lose it.

Be careful on Massebesic! I live right next to it and this morning, on the Auburn side, there was still a lot of open water out in the middle. Probably plenty of ice near shore but nowhere near safe towards the middle.

Good Luck!

Dan

Easy on Massy, The Front side just caught on Saturday and there was open water out a Battery Point, theres a huge current that runs through there, if you have any doubt  about the current on Massy just stop by Deerneck Bridge and look at it moving under the bridge. Some of the coves are doing well 5 -6 ".

We'll be safe. I wont be going out there if its not safe, and we dont plan on being far from shore either.

Will give a report tomorrow.

If you're after trout or even bass for that matter....no need to go too far off shore...2-5' f.o.w. is plenty enough...Have Fun, Be Safe... ;)

We are on the ice right now, and not a single flag yet! Solid 4 inches of black ice where we are.

Oh well! We are at least out trying! Using powerbait, salmon eggs, shiners, and nothing!

Took a walk out to see and me Scott D &  Banman1960, they were out there braving the winds and fragile ice conditions.

They had no fish while I was there but were moving traps around.

If you happen out on Massy beware there is many areas that have not caught yet and the wind is pushing the water under the ice, you can look down and see small waves going past you under the ice. Hopefully the winds will stop tonight.

Nice to meet both Scott D and Banman1960.

there is still patches of grass and some clumps of milfoil but yes i was a little surprised to find a few nice sandy areas in about 3 feet of water was hoping the shallower water would also be clean but as usual it was littered with leave and needle debri's.....

We were over by the Fire roads on 121, we had the Red Eskimo Portable up. We saw somew cars when we left near the morring bouys but didnt see anyone fishing on the ice. We left around 3pm, got on the ice around 10am.

We had lots of clear bottom, saw lots of little frozen perch in the ice, but not a single fish swim by us, and trust me we were looking :-(
