Use light line for trout and jigging, 4-6 lb test. I like 20 lb floro for bass for 2 reasons: you can pull them out of weeds, and you don't get as many pickerel breaking you off.

I use 20 pound vinyl coated main line with 8 or 10 pound mono leader. I fish for walleye with this set up.
One of my jigging rods I use 2 pound fireline fused micro ice crystal. Don't really like the feeling of the line, might take it off... I just wanted to try it.
Trilene micro ice 3 lb is my usual trusted line.

put 6 on the pole, and use a  mono leader of 8 for trout on the tip ups and 15-20 for bass don't want the pole to heavy then the smaller jigs you will lose some of the feel on the hits

I have been using 17lb. for Bass and Slime Darts, 8lb. for Trout, and 50lb. for Pike.
All Fluorocarbon, all 3-5 feet.

I pretty much use 8 to 10 for everything but pike. Mostlly target LMB and pickeral, and dabble with the walley at night. I do get a few trout but not alot.

Hey 17....Use light leaders for trout/bass but the actual line that is on your tip-up spool is a different story.
I like a heavy dacron (45lb. test) because it's easy to handle. If your tip-up is in good working condition the heavy line should spool out fine.

i'm a fly fisherman in the summer time.  what i use for the ice sesons is mostly 8 LBS. except when i'm after pike and pikeral. for my set up, i tie a perfection loop in the end of the main line and one in my leader, then they are not permanent. so if i have some bite offs i can change the leader to something heavier. and not spend all day triing to tie on a nail knot. i've heard that the perfection loop doesn't work. well i feel that it's a great knot. i've landed some real big strippers on that knot "up in the 20LBS.". so i don't have a problem putting that knot to good use on any fresh water fish. just to add my two cents. :) :)
