How did you fasten floor to your trailer??
« on: Jan 10, 2011, 11:54 PM »
This is for the permanent shanty guys that have their unit mounted permanately to a steel trailer frame.

Just curious how you fastend the floor?  I was thinking about drilling and tapping, but seems a little excessive.

I am going to drill through holes around the permiter once i fasten the walls down, but not sure what to do in the center.

I welded pieces of threaded rod to the top of my frame, drill holes through the bottom plate (2x3) and then uses a washer/nut to hold the walls down.

In the center I used self tapping screws to attach the plywood to the center of the frame.

Menards I think has self drilling flat head floor screws. If not, I know any place that services semi-trailers would have floor screws.  That should be all you need for the floor and if you can find long enough ones, you can use them to hold the walls down also, I think they are 1/4".

floor screws. They use them in semi trailers. Drill a pilot hole and reef them in...solid as can be.

self tapping screws. you may need a pilot hole for the larger ones that way you can use a regular drill to run them in.
