Laker lures?
« on: Dec 09, 2009, 07:32 PM »
Just kinda curious as to what you boys up north use to target the big lakers.  I would like to see if some of your techniques vary from what we use down here.  No need to give out secret weapons or anything just a little info.
Oh ya and by the way GO TEAM WYOMING!!! ;) ;D

If there agressive up here they will bite almost anything. But one of my favorites is a 6 inch purple super duper lure made by my machinist friend. A piece of chicken with skin attached for bait always helps to  ;)

Yeah that 6 inch purple super duper lure seems to be my # 1 go to lure when jigging deep. You can also instead of chicken meat strip with skin attached go with the stomach lining of a moose (luckily I just got replenished), cleaned of course, and cut in thin 1/8 inch strips about 4 inches long. Those big lakers just can't resist a fresh musky moose lining ;)

We are in the process of developing a new jig here in Big Wonderful Wyoming. It is called "The Hair of B.C. Mod. Jig" We got some sample specimens last year and are looking for more specimens this year.

We'll see what happens this year......seems like walter and I always put up lots of fish at the beginning and get it all revved up and lose out by fractions of an inch later.....not gonna happen this year....gonna be lots of big fish at the last minute so don't count your chickens.....I always thought this was a lame way to do it but you gotta do what you gotta do. ;)

well maybe a couple snuck in here and there ;D  not to mention if burbot are chosen as a species we're all in trouble as last year my son (now Kozfishjr) outfished me about 5:1 and my daughter is signed up as well (kozfishergirl) :)  Mostly I'm just grumpy as I have yet to get out as stuff piles up for christmas.
