Both lakes freeze but I have been told to be "very careful" on Shock because of springs.  I know that people fish it every winter.  I went on Spear last year once with little luck.  But that was in the middle of the day as a last resort before going home.  There were actually quite a few guys out there.  I know in the past that the DNR use to sink old christmas trees in Spear for cover.  I'm not sure if they still do but it may be something to look into if you plan on going there.

I have had no problem on either lake.  I fished both quite often up until about 10 years ago.  To me, the fishing quality isnt what it once was.

Anyone fished Hammond (small Tri-County lake) lately?  I went out last January and drilled at least 15 holes and never even marked a fish on the Vexilar.  Usually I can get at least a few Crappies out of that lake.

The only lake that I have had success(if ya can call it that) on in recent years at Tri-county is Barrel and a Half.
