Save you're gas,the crappies are few and far between, not saying they arent there because they are, just tough to catch, gills on the other hand.......they can be caught.

He is right the crappies are hard to get out there, there are some good ones but nowhere close to the success youll have on the gills but dont let the drive stop ya I live in mooresville and go there quite a bit. sweet lake.

Swedish__Pimple is exactly right. I live less than ten minutes from the lake and spend a lot of time on it. There are some good crappie in it but not the numbers that I believe it should have. And most of the time they're hard to get. The perch fishing used to be terrific but since they put the walleyes in it has dropped significantly. Now the bluegill fishing is another story.

Summit is about 700 acres with plenty of parking. Its a state park the walleye stocking began in late 90's but basically failed until they started stocking fingerlings a few years later. The fry they stocked earlier pretty much became perch and bass food. Don't believe the hype on this lake unless you here it here or on other reputable sites. I remember years ago in a single issue of Indiana Fish and Game there were articles on bass, catfish, and crappie and all of them said Summit was one of the top five lakes in the state for those species. At the time I fished it nearly once a week and the crappie population sucked and the bass population was why down. There are crappie in there. They can be caught, but they are TOUGH through the ice and you aren't that big. 10-12" is a bigger one here. There are walleye in there, but they can be tough too. Now as Pimp said if you want gills this is a great lake for ice fishing.
Photobucket can suck it

I did really well for nice crappies during the spring but winter ice is another story. I am sure that if you spent enough time looking for them then maybe . . .
