Highland Lake Derby
« on: Oct 21, 2009, 06:35 PM »
Anyone fish this derby before? Have a summer home up there and always pass the signs for the ice fishing derby. Just curious if it's anything special.

One of the members of our BassClub lives on the lake near the ramp(or one of em). We had a 2 day tourney (softwater) there every year. Some big largemouths , one of the guys pulled a 7,8 outta there during a tourney.
Use to be 3 ponds b4 they dammed it up. Probably a good hardwater place, has smallies too.

I always see these flyers on vally rd in washington promoting it. I hope its fish and game approved, it would make for a fun hardwater spot.

must be a interesting place to ice fish.....real shallow with a mean depth of only 6 feet....i have bass fished the place a few times and caught a few nice largies and smallies.......
when chuck norris played golf for money, chuck marked down a hole in zero every time, the golf pro said, "chuck: you can't score zero on a hole." Chuck norris turned towards the man and said, "I'm chuck norris, the man proceeded to pour gas over his body and set himself on fire because that would be less painful than getting roundhouse kicked by chuck norris....chuck norris roundhouse kicked him in the face anyways

Was three smaller ponds before the dam was built , incorporating them into one. Took 3rd place with a mixed limit of smallies and large during club tournament there years ago. I spent most of my time in what used to be the "middle pond" .
Lil deeper than the other ends. I liked that ya can go grab coffee and donuts at the dock/store and be  back fishing in no time. Hopefully they stay open in the winter too!

Is the Highland Derby the same as the Washington Derby where all lakes and Ponds in Washington are included?

No they are two different derbies. Highland Derby is put on by the highland lakes association and the prizes are usually gift certicates....I think Home Depot usually 100 for first. Washington is all legal water in washington. they usually have prizes, and more categories. Highland is pretty small derby.

They do lower the level of the lake in the winter. Which in my mind would eliminate about a 1/3 of the fishery, seeing as it's so shallow. I could see this as being a fantastic hardwater destination. Be it largemouth, rock bass, white and yellow perch, and maybe a pickeral or two. Hopefully we will see everyone up there for this derby, and maybe get a little a side pot goin ;) for the ice shanty members.

i might try to make it.....i use to do the tour back in the day, but lost interest with all the crowds and bullying for fishing spots......
