My New Homemade Tip-Up
« on: Oct 04, 2009, 10:26 AM »
Here's the tip-up I've been working on the past couple of days. Wood is 3/4 red oak, reel is homemade, danish oil and 2 coats of spar exterior polyurethane finish, flag is actually red reflective tape(looks yellow in picture due to camera flash), spring steel is from an old windshield wiper. Now I hope I can land some northerns/muskies/walleyes this season(at least try), and now I have the satisfaction of knowing I made it myself and it actually works! Now I need to make a hole cover to go with it. Smitty

Can you be a little more specific as far as the hardware and where you purchased the parts from. PM me if you would like.

until you put it through the ice!  ;D

I have a piece of sun worn Mahogany (old boat seat) that I want to salvage a few sticks of, with my table saw and make something like your`s. Hope it`s the trap that brings home the keeper of a lifetime for you.  8)

Those look great. How long did it take you to make them?

That tip up looks great.  I made a bunch of tipdowns last fall....to me it is much more satisfying catching fish on something you crafted yourself.

Nice job on the tip-ups....you may want to put your wingnut on the top so it does not sit on the ice and the tip-up will sit flat on the ice
