HUMMINBIRD REGRET??????
« on: Mar 11, 2009, 07:35 PM »
Ok, so i just received my 3RD Humminbird 55 powerhead in the mail today.  This one sucks too.  I turned it on and it takes for ever the the unit to actually get spinning and when it does start spinning full speed it sounds like a car engine with a blown plug.  It seriously sounds like it is either going to blow up or rattle the parts right off the damn thing.

So, here is my luck with the 55 so far; borrowed a buddies for 5 days on the ice and it worked great; loved it.  So i bought one. The first unit i could not get to turn on right away (it took 25 minutes on the ice for the unit to turn on once and every other time it takes a good minute or so) and it sucks battery like you would not believe (in fact i have all 3 heads still in my possession; so when i plug in the other two the battery shows 100%, i plug my original back in and it shows 90%).

2nd unit Humminbird mailed out to me did not read the bottom correctly.  In 40' and the bottom read at 18' (AND NO IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE AUTO DEPTH OPTION).

So I am 0 for 3.  Not sure what Humminbird will say when i call them back.  They told me a tech was going to take this unit out and run it.  Unless it was damaged during shipping i am pretty sure no one used this unit.  And if they did they need hearing aids.

Needless to say i am quite dissapointed and thinking of asking Humminbird to refund my money.  This is all too bad because i really like the unit when it is running right..

I'm on my second ice45 and it broke on me in the middle of a derby last weekend. >:(
Store I bought from wont refund me even though I only had it a month, gonna have to write/call hummingbird and see if they will refund me.
Some times the flasher wont light up and other times the whole thing lights up solid even on low gain. And yeah its way more noisy than any vex Ive used.
If you cant ride it, drink it or bring home it to bed, it aint worth having!

I am not in for a flasher war.  I used a vex for 10 plus years and yea it was reliable.  I just like the extra power (sensitivity) the Bird has.  Much clearer picture and NO intereference.  I was SO sick of hitting the IR button when me and my buddies were fishing in our wheel house.

Anyways, i am hoping i get a unit like the firs one i borrowed (that actually works right).

There is a reason you never buy a product in it's first year. I always wait a year for them to work out the bugs.
This goes for anything, quads, sleds, cars etc. Whenever the manufacturer designs or redesigns a product there are usually issues in the first year of production.

Well the positive here is the 2 year warranty they have.  If they dont have the bugs worked out by then; I will be ready to buy another unit anyways  ;D.

That is why I am a Lowrance customer
Fisherman's Prayer
I pray that I may live to fish
          Until my dying day.
And when it comes to my last cast,
       I then most humbly pray:
When in the Lord's great landing net
           And peacefully asleep,
That in His mercy I be Judged
              BIG ENOUGH TO KEEP.

I am also a Lowrance customer, but I will still wait a year before purchasing my new HDS 10 Sonar for the boat. ;D
$2,500+ is a lot of $$$$$ to shell out for an unproven piece of equipment.

Yea it sucks to go through this now, but I am confident Humminbird will figure it out.  they have been around for a LONG time and make a good product.  We shall see.

I just received my 2nd power head for my HB55 and it is the same situation. The bottom has jumped on all the power heads that I have had. Tried the newest one yesterday and this one has the same issues and also seems the be louder. I am done dealing with humminbird. I am going to try and get a refund.

Let me know how that goes for you?  they told me returns only happen according to the store's policy which you purchased the unit from.  e.g. if they have a 30 day return policy and you are past that you are out of luck.  Humminbird told me they do not take direct returns.  I did not push the issue, but that was what they said.  I am very frustrated, as mentioned above, the first unit i borrowed ran without a flaw.
