PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island will get more than $6 million to help preserve the state's fish and wildlife populations.
The federal funds more than $4 million from a sport fish restoration program, and about $2 million from a wildlife restoration program will go to the state's Department of Environmental Management.
U.S. Sen. Jack Reed, D-R.I., announced the grants on Wednesday.
The state agency can use the money to pay for stocking fish, aquatic and wildlife research, buying and improving habitats, fishing and hunting educational programs, and construction at boat ramps, fishing piers and shooting ranges.
