Snelled Rig Advantages?

 What are the advantages of using a snelled hook with a leader on a tip up? :tipup:

Are you talking about snelling them yourself, or the pre-tied snelled hooks? I don't trust other peoples knots. If you are tying them your self, the one real advantage of a snelled hook is the strait pull.

My Tip ups are snelled .....

A snelled hook will turn out when pulled against the fishes mouth ....

I run FLorocarbon leaders with a Tiny loose worm weight 2 Chart Beads and a Red Gamagatsu Wide gap drop shot hook snelled .... Getting great hook ups ... Same for my Dead stick.

 It is not old fishing line and I have not had a break off because if the knot. It was because if a pikes teeth.

I would ditch the long shank hooks and opt for the Octopus hook as shown in the prior post. The Octopus hook will almost always find it's way into the fishes jaw and your snell won't be suspect to the fishes teeth. I would be more worried about the gill plates cutting the line when they thrash and spin.
