KTP-Bad Return Policy
« on: Jan 26, 2009, 12:27 PM »
So I am just posting this as a rant about KTP.  Bought a Yakima box 7 months ago and it has been used half a dozen times and it's developed a crack in the lid and they won't exchange it.  After talking to 3 different managers all they are willing to do is credit my card for $25 for some glue to fix it, and they offered to fix it for me I wanted.  I guess they just don't stand behind there products like Bean's and Cabelas will.  I haven't purchased many big ticket items from them before, so it goes without saying that I will never purchase any type of outdoor equipment from them again and I would advise anyone else to look elsewhere for their purchase.  Anyone else ever have problems with their return policy?

Not sure, just noticed it the other day.  It just started in the back on the lid the other day.  I can only asume the extreme cold opening an closing it tweaked something.  You would think something designed to carry skis in cold weather would be a little more up to the task.  I am not one to abuse return policies either but that sure is frustrating.  They told me they won't take it back because Yakima won't waranty it and as one manager put it, "they would be SOL".  So they figure pass the SOL on to me.  I guess I have been spoiled by Beans and Cabelas.  Maybe it isn't right of me to expect that kind of customer service from a major outdoor sporting goods retailer.  I'll get off my box now, just wanted to share the experience as caution for other folks that may shop there.

It's good to know though.  Any luck contacting Yamika directly to try and resolve with them?
not yet, they are next on the list though.

I was out there a week ago to return a broken heater that was given to me for X-mas. I went to use it and the black adjuster knob was busted. I called before I drove out there and they said to bring it in. I exchanged it with no hassels at all. I didn't even have a receipt for it. Just the KTP sticker on the box.

Maybe you should show up with a bunch of road flares taped to your chest. I bet that would get them moving on it!  :D

Come to think of it, that may not be a good idea. If memory serves.....there's a gun section there!

"I want a new one"

"Chhh Chhh"

"Ahhhh. Did I mention that these are only road flares?!"

those pine trees are made in berlin.......anyways, i have sent stuff back to ll bean that was over 20 years old......
when chuck norris played golf for money, chuck marked down a hole in zero every time, the golf pro said, "chuck: you can't score zero on a hole." Chuck norris turned towards the man and said, "I'm chuck norris, the man proceeded to pour gas over his body and set himself on fire because that would be less painful than getting roundhouse kicked by chuck norris....chuck norris roundhouse kicked him in the face anyways

you gotta realize.... kittery's a retailer. they get all their stuff MADE BY DIFFERENT COMPANIES FOR THE INDIVIDUAL COMPANIES. ll bean has their own line of gear, clothing, etc. cabelas has their own line of gear, clothing, etc. thats why they back it... it's their stuff. at kittery, it's totally different. i can buy a shakespeare ugly stik anywhere, i just choose to go to kittery for it. and if it breaks, too bad. walmart's not gonna give me a new rod after it broke 5 months after i bought it. most online retailers won't either.

think of it this way....
with cabela's and LL bean, their name's on every product. they gotta back it, or else people stop paying the jacked up prices they charge for the "better service."
but with kittery, it's the same stuff you can buy anywhere. they dont make their own line of gear, so why back it? after all, it's not their product, it's the manufacturers :-\

lookit the cabela's catalogs....most of the stuff in there is made by another company, but the cabela's name gets slapped on it and the price tag jumps 50 bucks.they'd better back it if they're already screwing you.... just my 2 cents.

Yup I did say 7 months ago.  When I spend $400 on a product I expect to get more than 7 months of use out of it, 5 of which were sitting in a basement waiting for winter.  All I was really getting at is disapointment in KTP not standing behind a product they sell.  Beans or Cabelas will back the product they sell regardless of the brand name on it, thats all.

Retail everywhere is hurting.  I think Cabelas is more of a threat to KTP than it is to Beans.

If the staff at KTP are any indication of where the store is headed, i would expect to see the place on the market soon.

Yeah I agree. Its not KTP fault your item broke you should take it up with the company that made it.

Not that anyone cares about this but just wanted to post and update, wrote a letter to the president of KTP, and Yakima.  Got a call from KTP's VP saying they want to make the situation right and they are going to exchange it.  There is one on order and reserved when it comes in.  This guy was pleasant to talk with and very understanding.  Never really expected to get a response from the letter but glad KTP came through.  To two thumbs up to them for that.
