As far as cold fronts I think that the closer it gets the slower the bite.  On the other hand, a strong storm system can be just what your looking for.  If there is a storm coming and there is any way possible, I will be on the ice!!  Many of my most memorable catches have come at these times.  Last year a buddy and I headed to the lake to get some fishin' in before the "big storm" hit.  We got set up around 12:15 and had to leave at 1:30 because it was snowing so hard we couldn't see the each other 20 yards apart.  In that time we caught 96 keeper size crappie and blue gill and 3 legal (15"+) bass.  The best hour and fifteen minutes I've ever spent on the ice!!

I agree with you on this one, when the storm hits is the time to be on the ice.  Last year I went out, didn't bother checking the weather.  After about an hour of not catching anything it started snowing and snowing alot, you couldn't see anything more than 20 feet in front of you  There were 3 different people out there fishing in the same area and we killed the big bluegills.  After about 2 hours there was at least 4 extra inches of snow down.  Only bad part was the snow kept burrying my fish.
Real fisherman don't yield to the weather.

I agree with crappie 66 but have  a neighbor who only goes under a specific set of weather conditions similar to those discussed. If weather is not right he stays home. Over a season I have far more fun and catch a lot more fish dinners than he does. He seems to consider himself a purist and technician rather than just spending time on the water like the rest of us hacks. ???
Good thing about prisons- they reduce the potential number of fisherman on the ice!
